TRAVIS & TERRY

There are so many stories I could tell you about my dad, stories that make me laugh and others that bring me tears. My dad has always been there for me and has been my mate ever since I was born. Like all relationships we’ve had our ups and downs but we always remain mates.

When I was a young kid me and my dad would spend every Saturday together. He would take me to all my basketball games and afterwards we would hang out, but as I grew older and became a teenager I drifted away from the old man a bit, not on purpose or anything, it’s just how it was. I would have more "important" things to do like hang out with mates. It wasn't until my dad got me down to the boxing gym that our relationship got back to how it was when I was younger. We were spending time together again, talking more and sharing a passion.
As an adult I love spending time with my dad having a cold beer and chatting about life and its lessons, listening to music, going down to the shops or to the boxing gym and hopping in the ring for a few rounds.

I realise that some people have had painful experiences with their fathers. Some lost their dads through illness and death. Some have felt abandoned, betrayed and hurt. I'm lucky that my dad is still here and lucky to have a great relationship with him. He has taught me so much over the years and I know he will keep teaching me. He’s the best son to his parents, always going to their house fixing and looking after things. He is the best grandparent to his granddaughter, always making her smile and taking care of her. And most of all he is the best dad, always looking after his kids. If I can be half the man he is when I'm older I know ill be doing something right in my life. My dad is my mate, has been and always will be.
